Cubanidad

We are a group of Latinx students at UCSD invested in learning about Cuba’s educational system, history, and culture. As students, we want to immerse ourselves in their educational system. In comparison to other Latin American countries, Cuba’s educational system is the most effective in terms of student retention and overall performance. The focus on national identity, history and the student-centered pedagogy reflects Cuba’s priority on education and making it accessible to all students. More information about Cuba’s education system and its historical and cultural context is a critical part of ending Cuba’s isolation. Recent U.S. government actions to improve relations between our two countries is a positive step. However, the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba is an injustice that we oppose. Instead, we hope to improve our country’s understanding of Cuba, particularly in effort to decolonize societal structures and relations.
